Red Hawks defeat Golden Eagles

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s basketball team hosted the Golden Eagles of La Sierra University on Saturday, Feb. 8th at 8:00 p.m. resulting in an exciting 89-88 win.

The Red Hawks started the game with an early lead with baskets from Shaquille Jones and Ian Corella giving Simpson a 13-8 lead with 14 minutes left to play in the half.

The Golden Eagles answered back with a run of their own before taking the 46-44 lead into halftime.

In the second half, both teams continued to maintain the lead as the score tied a total of 10 times alone in the second half. The last tie of the game happened with 1:45 minutes left to play in regulation at 85-85.

A shot from Ian Corellaa would give the Red Hawks a 89-88 lead and La Sierra was unable to score, giving the Red Hawks the victory and an improved 8-2 conference record.

Ian Corella and Shaquille Jones would finish with 19 points each, Corella would add 9 rebounds. Anthony Williams finished with 15 points, and Amon Schenk finished with 10 points.

The Red Hawks will prepare for California Pacific Conference #1 team in CSU Maritime on Thursday, Feb. 13th at 7:30 p.m.
