Red Hawks win road game against UC Merced

MERCED, Calif. - Simpson University men’s basketball team traveled to Merced, Calif., to play the UC Merced Bobcats on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. The Red Hawks continued their red hot conference play by winning 97-84.

In the first half, the Red Hawks started out strong and led by double digit in the first six minutes. With their largest lead being 16 with 4:02 left to play in the half, the Red Hawks held off a fighting Bobcats team and led 49-40 at halftime.

In the second half, big shots from Marc Kirkland and Gabriel Valencia kept the Red Hawks ahead. After being subbed out for a completely ripped open shoe, Ian Corella subbed back in and aggressively helped Simpson pull away and win 97-84.

The Red Hawks were led by Shaquille Jones, who finished with 20 points, seven assists, and nine rebounds. Corella finished with 19 points, Anthony Williams with 16, and Valencia with 11.

Simpson is in 6-1 in the California Pacific Conference and will prepare for their next game at Menlo College on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

The Red Hawks will travel to UC Merced on Thursday, Jan. 30. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
