Red Hawks win final regular season game

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University men’s basketball team hosted the Pacific Union College Pioneers on senior night on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 8:30 p.m. The Red Hawks won 80-71.

After saying farewell to their only senior, Nic Thacker, the Red Hawks immediately started the game on a run. Anthony Williams, who finished the game with seven steals, led the team offensively on a 22-6 run. The Pioneers would close the gap before going into halftime down 39-27.

In the second half, Pacific Union fought their way to take a two-point lead with 8:53 left to play in the game. Big shots from Ian Corella and Jonnie Washburn carried the Red Hawks to an 80-71 win.

The Red Hawks were led offensively by Williams and Washburn with 17 points. Dalton Thacker finished with 15 points, and Corella finished with 12.

Simpson will have two weeks to prepare for playoffs held at Menlo College on Saturday, March 1. The Red Hawks will face No. 2 William Jessup University.
