Red Hawks Lose in Overtime to Raiders

ASHLAND, Ore. - The Simpson University men’s basketball team traveled to Ashland, Ore., to face No.18 Southern Oregon University on Nov. 4. The Raiders defeated the Red Hawks 90-78 in overtime.

Both team battled hard, and the largest lead of the first half was nine points by the Red Hawks. Raiders’ forward Brennan Rakoz scored a lay-up with nine seconds left to put Southern Oregon up by three going into the break. Senior Anthony Williams led all scorers with 18 points at the half.

In the second half, it was much of the same, as both teams battled to the end. The Raiders took a three-point lead with 52 second left. With 27 seconds left, senior Jonnie Washburn tied the game with a three-pointer off an assist from senior Dalton Thacker. The Raiders had a chance to win but missed a shot at the buzzer.

In overtime, the Raiders jumped out to a 10-point lead, which was too much for the Red Hawks to overcome. Southern Oregon defeated Simpson 90-78.

Williams led the Red Hawks with 18 points. Washburn was the second-leading scorer with 15 points, and Thacker contributed 12 points.

The Red Hawks will return to action by hosting Corban University on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m.
