Red Hawks fall to No. 3 CSU San Marcos

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University men’s basketball team traveled San Marcos, Calif., to take on the No. 3 CSU San Marcos Cougars, on Saturday Jan. 18.The Red Hawks lost 86-73.

In the first half, Simpson took an 8-2 lead with 16 minutes left to play, when junior Ian Corella and sophomore Dalton Thacker combined for the Red Hawks’ first eight points. At the 11:05 mark, the Cougars closed the gap and tied the game 12-12. After a 17-2 run, San Marcos went into the half ahead 42-32.

In the second half, the Red Hawks struggled to close the gap, and they fell behind by as many as 17 points. Simpson got no closer than eight points the rest of the half and ended up losing the game 86-73.

The Red Hawks had four players in double digits. Thacker finished with 16 points, Anthony Williams with 14, Amon Schenk with 13, and Corella with 12.

Simpson remains 4-0 in the California Pacific Conference and will prepare for their next conference game against Pacific Union College on Thursday, Jan. 23.
