Red Hawks lose Homecoming game to rivals

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University men’s basketball team hosted the William Jessup University Warriors for Homecoming on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m., resulting in a 93-85 loss.
In the first half, the Red Hawks came out aggressive, getting back-to-back open shots. The Warriors answered back, matching the aggression, taking an early lead, and going into the half ahead 45-43. Dalton Thacker dominated offensively, leading Simpson with 18 first-half points.
Coming out of halftime, the Red Hawks attacked early and got William Jessup’s Kelton Newman in foul trouble. With Newman out of the game, the Warriors went with a bigger line up, which allowed them to take a 12-point lead. Simpson managed to close the gap, but ran out of time before losing 93-85.
Thacker finished the game with a career-high 36 points and seven rebounds and four assists. Ian Corella finished with 17 points, and Jonnie Washburn finished with 16. Anthony Williams had a game-high eight rebounds.<.
The Red Hawks will prepare for a back-to-back game, as they host La Sierra University on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 8:30 p.m.
