Red Hawks Advance to NCCAA Nationals

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s golf team advanced to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Nationals after winning its regional qualifier at Centennial Golf Club in Medford, Ore.
“We played very well, shooting a 36-hole, two-day total of 597 just 29 strokes over par,” said head golf coach Mark Mezzano.
Simpson went head-to-head against newcomer New Hope Christian College during the annual Border War hosted by Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT). The Red Hawks finished third in the Border War, three strokes behind OIT and 23 strokes behind tournament winner Corban University.
Sophomore Nick Norgaard led the Red Hawks with a 10th place finish, shooting a 74-73, 5-over-par. Junior Barrett McLaughlin finished 11th, shooting 77-71, and senior Marcus Mezzano and sophomore Lucas Vaughn tied for 15th, shooting 77-74 just 9-over-par. Junior Aaron Clare finished tied for 27th place.
The Red Hawks will travel to Panama City, Fla., to compete at the NCCAA Nationals on Oct. 27-29.
