Red Hawks Lose in Overtime to Arizona Christian

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime to Arizona Christian University on Sunday, Sept. 14.

The game remained scoreless until the 72 minute, when freshman Craig Stieler scored off junior Marvin Delgado’s assist to give the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead. With 36 seconds left in the game, Arizona Christian's Trevor Cates scored the tying goal (1-1) and sent the game into sudden death overtime. In overtime, Arizona Christian's Brett Martinez scored in the 95 minute to seal the victory 2-1.

Red Hawk freshman Michael Jones had stellar performance with six saves. Delgado recorded his second assist on the season, and Stieler scored his first career goal.

The Red Hawks begin Cal Pac Conference play by hosting La Sierra University on Sept. 16. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
