Red Hawks Lose to Embry-Riddle

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s soccer team faced the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Oct. 4. The Eagles came away with the 4-2 victory.
Simpson started the game with a shot by senior Marvin Delgado, which was blocked by Eagles’ senior Ryan Holt. Freshman Michael Jones recorded his first save of the game by stopping Embry-Riddle junior Nick Uzunyan. The Red Hawks’ Tristian Webb had a shot on goal, but the Eagles’ Damian Klymko got the save. Jones had three more saves, senior Jonathan Lowdermilk had a defensive save, and sophomore David Dinius had a block to keep the game scoreless for the half.
In the second half, Webb scored the first goal of the game to make it 1-0 Red Hawks. Shortly after, the Eagles tied the game at 1-1 off a goal scored by junior Issac Sanchez. Simpson’s Jones had another save, but then let Fabio Pena’s shot get by him making the score 2-1 Eagles. Embry-Riddle senior Tristian Korras then score off of a corner kick to make the score 3-1. Jones had two more saves, which led to a Simpson goal when junior Andrew Sill scored off an assist from Jonathan Dinius to bring the Red Hawks within one (3-2). The Eagles’ Pena scored again assisted by Korras to bring the final score to 4-2.
Jones lead the game with 14 saves. Simpson took 11 shots and had six shots on goal.
The Red Hawks’ next game will be against the Menlo College Oaks on Oct. 7.
