Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s soccer team was in action for the second time this season when they hosted the Owls from Oregon Tech on Saturday, Aug. 23. The Red Hawks were in search of their first win of the season but fell short, losing 5-1.
The Owls didn't waste any time getting on to the scorers sheet when Nathan Wade scored in the fourth minute to give Oregon Tech a one goal lead. Ian Tarnovsky doubled the Owls’ advantage in the 17th minute when he calmly finished off his chance. Jackson Smith was the next to find the back of the net for the Owls, when he scored in the 29th minute on an assist from Jacob Carpenter to make it 3-0 Owls. The Red Hawks then started to get their teeth into the game, and their hard work paid off with a goal in the 37th minute. Mitch Boyle did well to get a cross in to Travis Ratzlaff, who finished to get the Red Hawks on the board and scored the first goal of the season for Simpson.
In the second half, Oregon Tech proved to be too much for the Red Hawks. GeRysand Cabanilla scored in the 54th minute, and Steven Dumas scored in the 84th minute to cap off the Owls’ 5-1 victory. The Red Hawks will look to recover as they have a lengthy break until they host CSU Stanislaus at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
