Eastern Oregon Bests Red Hawks

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Simpson University women’s basketball team took on the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers on Nov. 22. The Mountaineers defeated the Red Hawks 88-52.
Simpson senior Katie Lenik scored the Red Hawks’ first bucket off an assist from sophomore Esther Wofford. Then the Mountaineers went on their first run of the game, which was stopped when Amber Huffhines hit a 3 off an assist by Lenik. Eastern Oregon continued to control the half and went up 17. The Red Hawks chipped away at the lead and got within 11 on a lay-up by freshman Fallon Greenhaw with about two minutes left in the half. Greenhaw went to the line after getting fouled and made both free throws to cut the lead to single digits, but the Mountaineers increased their lead to 15 at the half, making the score 40-25.
Wofford scored first for the Red Hawks in the second half. Eastern Oregon continued to score, but around the 10 minute mark senior Rianna Gallardo hit a jumper to get the lead down to 16. Wofford also hit a jumper on an assist by Emma Limburg. Then the Mountaineers ran away with the game and defeated the Red Hawks 88-52.
The Lady Red Hawks will host Walla Walla University on Monday, Nov. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
