ATHERTON, Calif. - The Simpson University women’s basketball team traveled to Atherton, Calif., to play Menlo College on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m. The Red Hawks fell short to the conference-leading Oaks 75-59.

In the first half, the Red Hawks fell behind quickly when Menlo went on a 6-0 run. With two quick baskets from Karley Menez and a drive by Madison Cox, Simpson tied the game at six. The Oaks capitalized on the Red Hawks’ lack of help defense, regained the lead and finished out the half with a 40-32 lead.

In the second half, Menlo never trailed, but Simpson was able to keep the game within 10 points. Key halftime adjustments and continual pressure in transition allowed the Lady Oaks to continually expand the lead and win 75-59.

Simpson was led by Nichole Jones, who finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Menez finished with 12 points and five rebounds, and Esther Wofford finished with 11 points.

The Red Hawks will prepare for the Homecoming game against rival William Jessup University on Friday, Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
