Red Hawks earn first conference win

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women’s basketball team hosted UC Merced on Saturday, Jan. 11 and earned their first conference win of the season with a 64-52 victory over the Bobcats.
In the first half, the Red Hawks struggled to take care of the ball, and the Bobcats capitalized on Simpson’s turnovers. Simpson led 13-6, with Nichole Jones having seven of those points, before the Bobcats closed the gap and gained the lead. UC Merced led 21-19 at halftime.
In the second half, the Red Hawks began to find their offensive rhythm. Back-to-back three-pointers from Kaity Hahn and Esther Wofford gave Simpson a 41-31 lead with 11 minutes left to play. Wofford dominated offensively before fouling out with two minutes left to play. After leading by as many as 18 points in the second half, Simpson finished the game with the 64-52 win.
The Red Hawks were led by Wofford, who finished with 16 points. Jones ended with 15, and Hahn had 10. Madison Cox finished the night with her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Simpson will travel to Riverside, Calif., to take on conference foe La Sierra University on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
