Simpson Player of the Week: Madison Cox

Madison Cox has been a key factor in the success happening in the Simpson University women’s basketball program. Cox entering her second year as a Red Hawk has proved to be a powerhouse in the paint offensively and defensively, and leads her team through actions and being poised.

Cox’s accomplishments include: Second Team All-Cal Pac and NCCAA DI West Region Honorable Mention honors her freshman year. She is currently averaging 5.56 points per game and leads her team in rebounds with 148 total, averaging 5.48 a game.

This past week, Cox carried her team into overtime in the Homecoming game against rival school, William Jessup University. Knocking down two clutch free throws to tie the game at 69 with .03 seconds left to play in regulation. Cox finished the night with 18 points, and 15 rebounds, earning her 3rd double-double of the season.

“The win felt amazing,” said Cox. “ Our team always works so hard to get a win and in making those 2 free throws I felt like I was doing my part in helping establish our goal of beating Jessup. That win boosted the team’s confidence and showed us how great we are when we play as a team. It also helped us knock Jessup out of 2nd place, and that’s always an added bonus.”
