Red Hawks Earn First Win

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women’s basketball team hosted the Walla Walla University Wolves on Nov. 24. The Lady Red Hawks earned their first win of the season, defeating the Wolves 76-42.
Simpson sophomore Esther Wofford scored the first points of the game, when she made a three-pointer. The Wolves responded with a quick two, but freshman Fallon Greenhaw and Wofford answered with eight points. Junior Emma Limburg subbed in and scored from behind the arc on an assist from freshman Erin Selleck to put the Red Hawks up eight. Another three by Limburg off a big rebound from senior Katie Lenik and an assist from Selleck put the Red Hawks up 17. Greenhaw gave Simpson an 18-point lead (34-16) going into the half, when she made the extra point after getting fouled.
Simpson started the second half with a steal and basket from Lenik. The Red Hawks went on a huge run and scored 11 straight points, with back-to-back baskets from Lenik and a big 3 from Limburg. Freshman Alysa Ann Castillo came in and hit a 3, making the score 60-27. Junior Aubrae Pearson subbed in and hit a quick three off an assist by Selleck to make the score 68-34. Castillo got two back-court steals and hit another three, spreading the lead to 35. Pearson then scored another 3, making the final score 76-42 for the Lady Red Hawks’ first win of the season.
The Lady Red Hawks will host Lewis and Clark State on Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
