Red Hawks Win on the Road
Simpson University Sports News
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Simpson University women's soccer team took to the field on Oct. 22, looking to end a long stretch of road games positively. The Lady Red Hawks got that result in the form of a 3-0 win over the Cyclones from Mills College.
The Red Hawks started off the game controlling the tempo and were rewarded in the ninth minute when Brook Gaddy got in behind the Cyclone defense and scored to make it 1-0 Red Hawks. Then just nine minutes later, Gaddy found her way past the defense and was able to squeeze her shot past the diving goalkeeper to double Simpson’s advantage. The Red Hawks continue to push the past Mills’ defense. Gaddy came close to scoring again, but her shot hit the crossbar and stayed out.
In the second half, Red Hawk Kendra Kaiserman narrowly missed a chance to get on the scorers’ sheet early in the half. Lacey Reen also had a good chance that was kept out by Cyclone goalkeeper Tayla Muise. The Red Hawks found the back of the net for the third time in the 65th minute when Lauren Godinet was taken down in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Janelle Gaddy finished off the play to cap the scoring for the day and give the Red Hawks the 3-0 victory.
The Red Hawks will try to use this momentum as they head into a three-game home stand, which begins against Menlo College at 1 p.m. on Oct. 25.
