Red Hawks Defeat Mills for First Win
Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's soccer team was in action against Mills College on Sept. 13. The Red Hawks were looking for their first win, and it came in the form of a 6-0 victory over the Cyclones.
Red Hawk freshman Lacey Reen gave Simpson an early 1-0 lead by scoring her first college career goal. Sophomore Brook Gaddy doubled the Red Hawks’ lead just minutes later, when her relentless defending put her in position to chip a shot over the Mills’ keeper’s outstretched hand. Reen scored her second goal of the game, when her solo run took her past the Cyclone defenders and through the goalkeeper to make it 3-0 Red Hawks. Red Hawk captain junior Marijke de Hoop then added another goal to give Simpson a 4-0 lead going into halftime.
In the second half the Red Hawks continued to dictate the pace of the game and scored two more times. Gaddy, who scored her third goal of the season, and junior Leah O'Halloran capped off the scoring for the Red Hawks.
The win gives the Red Hawks their first win of the season and a 1-3 overall record. They will hit the road for a two-game road trip to Southern California and will next be in action against Marymount University of California at 1 p.m. on Sept. 19.
