Simpson wins two against La Sierra

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team hosted a doubleheader against the La Sierra University Golden Eagles on Sunday, March 23. The Red Hawks won game one 8-5 and game two 11-2.
In the first game, Simpson started out strong by scoring three runs in the first inning off a three-run, 210-foot homerun from Kara Wall. The Golden Eagles answered back in the third inning by tying the game 3-3. In the top of the fourth inning La Sierra scored one run before the Red Hawks answered back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. With doubles from Cherie DeJesus and Aleisha Brown, the Red Hawks took a 6-4 lead. Simpson scored two more runs in the fifth inning and La Sierra scored one more run to end the game with an 8-5 Red Hawk victory.
Wall and Brown had three RBIs each for the Red Hawks. Brown went 2-for-3 from the plate. Kaylana Mah and DeJesus each had three assists. Carlye Avey received the win for Simpson with 22 at bats, six strikeouts, and three earned runs.
In the second game, the Simpson completely took control of the game by scoring seven runs before the Golden Eagles could score their first. With the score 7-2 at the bottom of the sixth inning, the Red Hawks scored four more runs before winning 11-2.
Simpson will suit up against the Golden Eagles on Monday, March 24 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
