Red Hawks go 1-1 on day two of Northwest Cup

CLACKAMAS, Ore. - The Simpson University women's softball team traveled to Clackamas, Ore., to compete in their second day of the Northwest Cup hosted by Concordia University-Portland at Hood View Park on Saturday, Feb. 15.

In their first game, Simpson defeated Northwest Christian University 9-0. The game remained scoreless for first two innings. Kaylana Mah’s two-run home run gave Simpson the lead and started an offense of domination. The Red Hawks finished the inning with three runs total. They scored an additional six runs to clinch the 9-0 win.

Mah, Kara Wall, and Ryan Norton all put up two RBIs apiece. Katelyn Bell pitched for the Red Hawks, allowing only three hits the entire game with three strikeouts.

In their second game, Simpson competed against College of Idaho and lost 7-3, earning their first loss of the season. The College of Idaho took a 2-0 lead in the third inning after scoring two runs off three doubles. In the fifth inning, Mah hit a two-run homer to left-center, making the score 3-2. College of Idaho clinched the 7-3 win off a three-run homerun in the sixth inning as Simpson could not answer back in the seventh.

Mah led with the only three RBIs for the Red Hawks. Carlye Avey and Bell both pitched for the Red Hawks.

Simpson will prepare for their final day in the Northwest Cup against Concordia University-Portland and Oregon Institute of Technology on Sunday, Feb. 16.
