Red Hawks defeat Eagles

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team competed against the Northwest University Eagles on Tuesday, March 11 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Red Hawks won game one 9-1 and game two 10-3.
In the first game, both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Red Hawks scored five runs. Shayley Madruga scored on a misplayed grounder by the Eagles. Ryan Norton’s single up the middle brought in two more points for the Red Hawks, making the score 3-0. Chelsea Dunn’s single to right field brought home Cherie DeJesus and Norton, making Simpson’s lead 5-0. The Red Hawks allowed the Eagles to score one run and gained another point off a homerun from Jodie Richards to win 6-1.
In the second game, Simpson became aggressive offensively and scored at least one run in every inning. Highlights of the game include Melissa Silveira’s single which brought home Marissa Marmolejo and Amanda Laughlin.
Norton led with three RBIs total, Laughlin led with four putouts, and Silveira led with two assists. Amy Rodriguez earned the win, with 22 at bats, three strikeouts, and three earned runs. Katelyn Bell finished pitching the game. She faced nine batters and had two strikeouts.
Simpson will prepare for their upcoming games at Antelope Valley in Lancaster, Calif., on Sunday, March 16 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
