Red Hawks sweep two-game series against No. 25 OIT

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team competed in a two-game series against No. 25 Oregon Institute of Technology at Big League Dreams in Redding, Calif., on Sunday, March 2. The Red Hawks won game one 2-1 and game two 9-1.
In the first game, both teams remained scoreless in the first two innings, but the Red Hawks changed that in the third inning. The Owls misplayed a grounder hit by Chelsea Dunn, and Julissa Castellanos and Kaylana Mah scored to give Simpson a 2-0 lead. In the seventh inning, the Owls scored a run off a double hit to deep right field, but Simpson didn’t allow the Owls to score any more runs and won 2-0.
In the second game, the Red Hawks came out strong by scoring one run in the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. In the fifth inning, the Owls scored one run and the Red Hawks scored six runs to take a 9-1 lead. The Red Hawks maintained their eight-run lead and won 9-1.
Mah, Ryan Norton, Marisa Marmolejo, and Aleisha Brown each had two RBIs for the Red Hawks. Shayley Madruga had four putouts, and Marmolejo had two assists. Paris Hallums received the win for the Red Hawks, with four strikeouts and one earned run.
The Red Hawks will prepare for their series against Southern Oregon University on Tuesday, March 4 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
