Red Hawks shut out Raiders

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team hosted the Southern Oregon University Raiders on Tuesday, March 4 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Big League Dreams in Redding. The Red Hawks swept the two-game series, winning game one 4-0 and game two 11-0.
In the first game, the Red Hawks scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning. Kara Wall homered to left on a 1-1 count to score the first run of the inning. Courtney Thomas hit a two-run homer to centerfield to score herself and Cherie DeJesus. Aleisha Brown scored the final run of the game on a wild throw by the Raiders. Simpson earned the victory 4-0, as no more runs were scored in the remaining innings.
The Red Hawks were led by Thomas, who had two RBIs and a homerun, and Wall, who had 12 putouts and a homerun. Katelyn Bell received the win. She had three strikeouts, faced 22 batters and allowed no earned runs.
In the second game, the Red Hawks ended the game early by leading by more than eight runs in the fifth inning. They defeated Southern Oregon 11-0. After Wall hit a two-run homerun in the first inning, Simpson scored nine runs in the fourth inning to take the 10-0 lead. Eight different players scored a run in the inning, which shows the depth in the Simpson University team.
Ryan Norton led with three RBIS and added two putouts. Wall had 2 RBIs, a two-run homer, and four putouts. Amy Rodriguez received the win for the Red Hawks, with 17 at bats, one strikeout, and no earned runs.
Simpson will prepare for their two-game series against Southern Oregon University on Saturday, March 8 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. in Ashland, Ore.
