Red Hawks go 2-0 on day one of Simpson Softball Classic

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team hosted the Simpson Softball Classic on Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22. Teams from Corban University, Concordia University-Portland, and William Jessup University also participated in a series of weekend games.

On day one of the tournament, the Red Hawks played the Corban University Warriors, winning 6-2, and the Concordia University-Portland Cavaliers, winning 3-0.

In the game against Corban, Simpson came out strong by scoring three runs in the first inning. Kaylana Mah, Ryan Norton, and Chelsea Dunn all scored runs, and Marissa Bravo-Barajas, Cherie DeJesus and Kara Wall all earned one RBI apiece. Both teams remained scoreless until the fourth inning, when both teams score two runs each, giving Simpson a 5-2 lead. The Red Hawks scored one more in the sixth inning before winning 6-2.

Norton led Simpson with two RBIs, and Mah led with six assists. Carlye Avey earned the win for the Red Hawks with five strikeouts and two earned runs.

In the game against Concordia, Wall’s two-run homer allowed the Red Hawks to get two quick runs in the first inning. The last run for the entire game came in the bottom of the third when Dunn’s double to left-center field allowed Aleisha Brown to score.

Wall led both teams with two RBIs.
