Simpson Splits Doubleheader at La Sierra

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s baseball team made it two wins in a row by winning game one of their doubleheader at La Sierra 7-6 on Feb. 13. The Golden Eagles won game two 9-8.
In game one, the Red Hawks jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first inning on a two-RBI triple by Elden Whisman. After Simpson and La Sierra each notched runs in the fourth inning, the Red Hawks rallied for three more runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding 7-3 lead. The fifth inning rally was highlighted by a three-run homer by Luke Tessman. La Sierra made a push in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs before Ryan King closed the door and earned the save. Jake Parent started the game on the mound for Simpson, pitching six innings and earning the win. Parent gave up three runs and struck out three in the effort. The top hitters for the Red Hawks were Tessman, who went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, and four RBIs, and Nate Reisnour, who was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs.
In game two, the Red Hawks lost a heartbreaker to the Golden Eagles by a score of 9-8. After leading 6-3 after the top of the seventh inning, La Sierra scored four runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 7-6 lead. Simpson scored two runs in the eighth to regain the lead, but gave it back by allowing two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Golden Eagles held the Red Hawks scoreless in the ninth to earn the 9-8 win. Humberto Solorio started on the mound for the Red Hawks, allowing seven runs on 11 hits. Reisnour earned the loss, allowing two runs on two hits and walking three. Daniel Mills, Matt Kiyota, Whisman, Dylan Mumford, and Sean Borboa each had two hits for the Red Hawks.
Simpson plays a doubleheader at Antelope Valley in Lancaster on Feb. 14. Game one starts at 11 a.m.
