Red Hawks Host Doubleheader Against Oaks

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University baseball team hosted a doubleheader against the Menlo College Oaks on April 4 at Tiger Field in Redding, Calif. The Oaks won game one 8-6 in extra innings and game two 9-7.
Game one was a high scoring affair that began with the Red Hawks scoring in the first inning when Casey Meyer reached home off a passed ball. Simpson built on its lead when Nathan Reisnour homered in the following inning to put the Red Hawks up 2-0.
The Oaks came storming back with a three-run third inning and taking a 3-2 lead. They added another two unanswered runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, however, a wild pitch allowed Kyle Ferguson to score. This was followed by Dylan Mumford scoring off of a misplayed fly ball, and Matthew Kiyota scoring on Walker Gemmill’s single to left. This strong inning for the Red Hawks enabled them to tie the game at 5-5.
The Oaks scored one in the ninth, but the Red Hawks answered with a run of their own to send the game to extra innings. In the 10th, the Oaks drove in two runs that the Red Hawks were unable to answer and won game one 8-6.
Ryan King received the loss for the Red Hawks, pitching one inning and allowing two hits and two runs.
Game two resulted in another high scoring battle. Menlo started the game with a three-run first inning, and Simpson scored a run in the bottom of the inning when Kiyota singled to right to score Ferguson.
The Oaks compiled six unanswered runs in the fifth, sixth, and eighth innings. The Red Hawks tried to rally in the ninth and drove in three runs, but it was not be enough as the Oaks won game two with a score of 9-7.
Garrett Greenhaw received the loss, pitching six innings and giving up nine hits and eight runs, all of which were earned.
