Simpson Loses Doubleheader to Owls

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s baseball team faced off against the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) Hustling Owls on March 22 in at Tiger Field in Redding. The Red Hawks lost both games, losing game one 14-4 and game two 13-0.
The Owls started off game one by driving in nine unanswered runs by the top of the third. In the bottom of the third, however, the Red Hawks showed fight as George Cechetti and Dylan Mumford scored runs off of a missed catch and a wild pitch. The Owls fired back by scoring four more runs in the following two innings to take a 13-2 lead. Simpson was able to compile two more runs when Kyle Ferguson singled to left scoring Casey Meyer, and Jarret Kirby scored after Aaron Curfman hit into a double play. The game ended with a 14-4 Owls’ victory.
Humberto Solorio received the loss for the Red Hawks and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing nine hits and nine runs, six of which were earned.
The second game of the doubleheader proved equally frustrating for the Red Hawks as OIT opened the game with a five-run first inning. The Owls continued to build on their lead until eventually shutting out the Red Hawks with a final score of 13-0.
Taking the loss for the Red Hawks was Kyle Martin, who pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 13 hits and 13 runs, all of which were earned. The game only went to seven innings.
The Red Hawks will host a doubleheader against La Sierra University at Tiger Field in Redding on March 24.
