Red Hawks Lose Season Opener to Oregon Tech

REDDING, Calif. - With 20 new recruits on the baseball roster, head coach Greg Cadaret experimented with a variety of players as Simpson University hosted Oregon Tech in a season opening four game series at Tiger Field on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. The visiting Oregon Tech Owls swept the four games and dropped the Red Hawks to 0-4.

Game 1- Oregon Tech 13, Simpson 5. The Red Hawks tallied 10 hits in the contest, with Walker Gemmill going 3-for-5. Untimely errors plagued the Red Hawks in the season opener.

Game 2- Oregon Tech 11, Simpson 4. The Red Hawks managed only five hits. Matt Kiyota went 2-for-2 with a double, Andrew Hatfield was 2-for-2, and Blaine Hokama doubled.

Game 3- Oregon Tech 4, Simpson 3. Simpson managed just four hits and rallied late only to fall in 10 innings.

Game 4- Oregon Tech 6, Simpson 5. Kurtis Huffman's grand slam home run gave the Red Hawks to a 4-0 lead. Errors allowed Oregon Tech to climb back into the game, and the Owls took a 6-4 lead into the seventh and final inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Jake Parent hit a towering home run to left field to make it a one run game, but Simpson could not get closer and fell to the Owls. Coryn Iwamasa went 2-for-3, and Hokama was 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Red Hawks.
