Red Hawks Improve to 7-0 in Conference Play
Simpson University Sports News
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - After a commanding win at UC Merced on Feb. 5, the Simpson University men’s basketball team traveled to Riverside, Calif., to take on the La Sierra University Eagles on Feb. 7. The Red Hawks remained undefeated in conference play and came away with the 86-64 victory.
After a strong start to the game for the Red Hawks, the Eagles made a last-second shot to send the game into halftime with a 47-39 Red Hawk lead. Once again, it was a strong second half effort by the Red Hawk defense that led to 20 turnovers and only 13 assists from the Eagles.
It may have been the defense that won the game, but there was an impressive offensive effort from the Red Hawks, as they finished with four players in double figures. Leading the way was Dalton Thacker, who finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists. This marked his third double-double in conference play. Shaquille Jones pitched in 13 points from the free throw line, and Marc Kirkland and Anthony Williams added 11 points apiece.
This win puts the Red Hawks at 7-0 in conference, as they sit alone in first place. The Red Hawks will host the Pacific Union College Pioneers on Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
