Red Hawks Win at Home Against Golden Eagles
Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - The La Sierra Golden Eagles made the long drive from Riverside, Calif., to Redding, Calif., to take on the Simpson University men’s basketball team on Jan. 22. The Red Hawks came into the game with their confidence high after beating California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) preseason favorite Cal Maritime on Jan. 17. The Golden Eagles, however, did not plan on conceding the win.
During the game, the teams tied seven times. A run late in the first half, sparked by seniors Dalton Thacker and Shaquille Jones, put the Red Hawks up 34-28 at half. Despite a tremendous second half effort from the Golden Eagles, the six-point deficit proved too large to overcome. The Red Hawk defensive effort proved to be a force once again this game, as they forced 26 turnovers for the second consecutive game. The Red Hawks’ full court press kept the tempo high and led to a high-scoring game that finished in an 81-72 Simpson victory.
Thacker, who shot 5-for-6 from behind the arc, led all scorers with 26 points. He also added six rebounds and three assists. Jones, Thacker's partner in the backcourt, poured in 24 points, pulled down seven rebounds, and dished out four assists.
The Red Hawks will host Cal Pac opponent UC Merced on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
