Simpson University Sports News

ATHERTON, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s basketball team traveled to Atherton, Calif., to take on the Menlo College Oaks on Jan. 29. The Red Hawks came in looking to improve their record to 4-0, while the Oaks were looking to pick up their second conference win. Simpson was able to pull off the road win, defeating the Oaks 68-64.

The Oaks gained an early lead but were stifled by a Red Hawk defense that battled back and earned a one-point lead at half. The second half was equally as competitive, but the Red Hawks controlled the lead the majority of the half. Shaq Jones finished the game by hitting five consecutive free throws in the last 30 seconds to keep the Oaks at bay. The Red Hawks earned a 68-64 road victory and improved to 4-0 in conference, the only undefeated team in conference after a Pacific Union College loss.

Anthony Williams led the Red Hawks with 15 points off of 7-for-8 shooting. Ian Corella and Jones pitched in 11 points each, and point guard Dalton Thacker led the Red Hawks with six rebounds.
