Simpson University Sports News
WINONA LAKE, Indiana - The Simpson University men’s basketball team took on Emmanuel College in the first round of NCCAA national tournament play on March 18. The No. 7 Red Hawks fell to the No. 2 Lions 78-50.
Emmanuel took advantage of Simpson’s slow start, and at the 10-minute mark of the first half the Lions had a commanding 25-8 lead. The Red Hawks struggled to score and had only four players put points on the board. At the end of the first half, Simpson trailed 43-20, and Ian Corella led the team with nine points.
The second half showed hoped for the Red Hawks, with Dalton Thacker getting into a rhythm and putting up 11 points and team production increasing. The Red Hawks scored 30 points compared to Emmanuel’s 35 points in the second half, but being behind 23 points to start the half was too great a deficit to overcome. Emmanuel took the 78-50 win over the Red Hawks.
The Red Hawks will face No. 3 Grace College at 7:15 a.m. (10:15 a.m. EST) on March 19.
