Red Hawks Defeat Pioneers to Finish Seventh at NCCAA Nationals

WINONA LAKE, Indiana - The Simpson University men’s basketball team played its final game of the season on March 20. The Red Hawks took on Crowley’s Ridge from Arkansas in the third game of the of the NCCAA national tournament. The Red Hawks defeated the Pioneers 87-79 and finished seventh in the national tournament standings.
Simpson came out strong quickly gaining a lead which they pushed to as much as 14 before finishing the half ahead by nine. The Red Hawks were led by Dalton Thacker’s 12 point, five rebound first half effort. Five minutes into the second half, Crowley’s Ridge gained the lead which they pushed to eight with 5:30 left. Baskets from Ian Corella and Shaq Jones along with a pair of Thacker free throws placed the Red Hawks back up by one. The Red Hawks were able to hang into their lead by making free throws and getting key stops. The final score was 87- 79, which placed the RedHawks at 19-17 on the season.
Corella led the Red Hawks with 19 points and eight rebounds. Jones added 18 points, and Thacker added 17 points and seven rebounds. Mark Kirkland pitched in 12 points. Corella and Thacker were given NCCAA All-American honorable mention honors after the game.
