REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s basketball team traveled to Vallejo, Calif., to take on the Pacific Union College Pioneers in a California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) semi-final playoff game. The Red Hawks defeated the Pioneers 95-78.

The Red Hawks were coming off of a loss to Cal Maritime that cost them the Cal Pac regular season championship. They came into the matchup with the Pioneers ready to prove themselves. In the last meeting between the Red Hawks and Pioneers, the visiting Pioneers came out with a victory after shooting 67% from three as a team.

Shaquille Jones came out on fire, scoring the first six points of the game. The Pioneers quickly rallied, tied the game, and took a two-point lead before the Red Hawks quickly regained the lead. It was at this point that Simpson took off and pushed their lead to 10 points at the half, with Jones leading the way with 15 points.

The Red Hawks came out of the break with high energy, pushing their lead to as many as 24 before the Pioneers made a run of their own.
