Red Hawks Earn Road Win Against Bobcats
Simpson University Sports News
MERCED, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s basketball team remained undefeated in California Pacific Conference play with an 89-67 road victory over UC Merced on Feb. 5.
The Red Hawks started out slow against the Bobcats, but with a great push from the Simpson reserves, they regained the lead. The Red Hawks fed off of their defense and suffocated the Bobcats, scoring fast break points off of steals. This allowed Simpson to go into halftime with a 10-point lead. The Bobcats made one last push early in the second half before a pair of Anthony Williams’ threes put them away for good.
The Red Hawks put together another very efficient game, shooting 57% from the field and 42% from the three-point line. They were led by Williams, who scored 25 points off of 11-of-14 shooting, Dalton Thacker, who scored 19 points off of 8-of-12 shooting from the field, and Marc Kirkland, who turned in his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 assists.
This win keeps the Red Hawks in the top spot of the conference with a 6-0 record. They travel to La Sierra to take on the Eagles on Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
