Red Hawks Lose on the Road to Warriors
Simpson University Sports News
ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s basketball team traveled to Rockland, Calif., to take on the William Jessup Warriors for the last time this season on Jan. 15. During the teams’ first meeting on Dec. 31, the Red Hawks pulled off a 66-62 victory. This time, however, the Warriors came away with the win. They defeated the Red Hawks 73-61.
The visiting Red Hawks came out firing on all cylinders and found themselves with a quick 16-7 lead. The Warriors took advantage of Simpson’s early missed free throws and bounced back to tie the game at 25. The two teams continued to trade leads throughout the first half, until Jessup made a buzzer-beating lay-up to give the Warriors a six-point lead at the break.
The second half was a very similar story. The Red Hawks battled back and eventually cut the lead to two points with 7:20 left. Back-to-back baskets and a pair of made free throws from the Warriors pushed the lead to nine with four minutes left, and Simpson was not able to bounce back. The Warriors finished the Red Hawks off with a 73-61 victory.
The Red Hawks have their conference opener against Cal Maritime at home on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
