Red Hawks Struggle on Cal Pac Road Trip

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Simpson University men’s soccer team traveled south to face California Pacific Conference opponents La Sierra University and Embry-Riddle University.
The first stop for the Red Hawks was Riverside, Calif., for a match-up against La Sierra on Sept. 18. The game was evenly played by both teams as neither team could get into a rhythm. In the 40th minute, La Sierra’s Yungbae Kweon scored the first goal of the game to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, a goal by Mingyu Wee off an assist from Kweon in the 59th minute gave La Sierra a 2-0 lead. The Red Hawks narrowed the lead to one (2-1) off a goal from Mitch Boyle in the 64th minute. The Red Hawks were unable to score again and dropped the match 2-1.
Sophomore goalie Michael Jones recorded 11 saves and allowed two goals. Boyle had a team high six shots with four on goal and one goal. Freshman Brandon Jacobsen recorded two shots with one on goal and an assist.
The Red Hawks traveled to Prescott, Ariz., to face NAIA power Embry-Riddle on Sept. 19. The Eagles showed their dominance as they out-shot the Red Hawks 34-4 for the game in a rout to 7-0 victory. Jones recorded 16 saves and allowed seven goals.
The Red Hawks will host Marymount University on Sept. 24. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
