Lady Red Hawks Lose on the Road to La Sierra

Simpson University Sports News

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Simpson University women’s basketball team traveled to La Sierra University to take on the third place Eagles on Feb. 7. The Eagles earned the home win, defeating the Red Hawks 65-57.

The Red Hawks jumped out to a quick six-point lead before the Eagles tied the game, and again the Red Hawks rallied and pushed the lead to seven. The Eagles, however, pushed back and tied the game right before their last-second shot at the end of the half put them up by two. In the second half, the Eagles controlled the game, despite a late effort by the Red Hawks that cut the lead to six with less than two minutes on the clock. The Eagles eventually finished off the visiting Red Hawks 65-57, putting Simpson at 0-7 in conference.

Leading the way for the Red Hawks were Esther Wofford and Katie Lenik, who combined for 43 of their team’s 57 points. Wofford finished with 26 points, and Lenik had 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Red Hawks will host the Pacific Union College Pioneers on Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
