Lady Red Hawks Fall to Golden Eagles

REDDING, Calif. - Going into the second conference game of the season on Jan. 22, the Simpson University women’s basketball team was in search of its first California Pacific Conference win over the visiting Golden Eagles from La Sierra University. The Lady Red Hawks mounted a comeback in the final minutes of play, but the Gold Eagles were able to hold them off and clench the 53-48 victory.

The Lady Red Hawks started the first half off slow, and Simpson’s first points were not scored until almost three minutes into the game. Even with the slow start, Simpson battled back to gain a two-point lead at the 12:30 mark in the first half. At the start of the second half, the Golden Eagles came out strong and went up 13 at the 13:54 mark. Lady Red Hawks fought back within five, but they could not grasp the win.

Sophomore Esther Wofford and senior Katie Lenik combined for 27 points and 18 rebounds.

The Lady Red Hawks will host the UC Merced Bobcats on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. with hopes of a getting their conference win.
