Lady Red Hawks Fall to Bobcats

MERCED, Calif. - The Simpson University women’s basketball team once again showed a tremendous amount of grit as the received a tough 67-56 road loss to the UC Merced Bobcats on Feb. 5.

At one point in the first half, the visiting Red Hawks trailed by 17 points, which seemed an insurmountable deficit. But a second half push led by Red Hawk posts Katie Lenik and Danielle Stewart cut the Bobcat lead to single digits. The 22 Red Hawk turnovers, 11 of which were unforced, proved to be the visiting team’s downfall. The Bobcats outlasted the Red Hawks and earned the 67-56 victory. With this loss, Simpson falls to 0-6 in conference play.

The catalysts for the Red Hawks were Lenik, who finished with 16 points and five rebounds, and Stewart, who contributed 13 points and six boards.

The Lady Red Hawks will take on the La Sierra Eagles on Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
