Red Hawks Earn First Win of the Season

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Simpson University women's soccer team was in action on Sept. 12, when they traveled to the Bay Area to take on the Cyclones from Mills College. The Red Hawks defeated the Cyclones 7-3 for their first win of the season.
The Red Hawks, struggling with injuries, played the game with only 10 players, but that did not stop them from finding the net early when striker Lacey Reen scored in the fifth minute. The Red Hawks took a quick 3-0 lead off goals from Courtney Holsen (13th minute) and Amanda Tedesco (14th minute). Brook Gaddy gave the Red Hawks a 4-0 lead in the 23rd minute, and Reen added her second goal of the match in the 26th minute to make it 5-0 Red Hawks. The Cyclones scored in the 37th minute off an Ashley Becker free kick to bring the score to 5-1.
The Red Hawks were quick to find the back of the net at the start of the second half, when captain midfielder Marijke de Hoop scored in the 49th minute off an assist from Kendra Kaiserman. Cerina Bvahani scored for the Cyclones in the 55th minute to make it 6-2.Kaiserman got her second assist of the game when her cross found the head of Gaddy who directed it in to make it 7-2 Red Hawks in the 70th minute. Dalia Pimentel scored a late goal for Mills in the 83rd minute, but it would be too little too late and the Red Hawks closed out the Cyclones for the 7-3 victory.
The Red Hawks open California Pacific Conference play against Embry-Riddle University in Prescott, Ariz., on Saturday, Sept. 19. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
