Red Hawks Fall to Warriors in Season Opener

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's soccer team opened its season at home against the William Jessup University Warriors on Aug. 29. It was a tough test for the Red Hawks, who fell 6-0.
In the opening minutes of the first half, the Red Hawks showed some good possession and attacking play by threatening the Warrior goal. Red Hawk goalkeeper Brittany Mattingly made some key saves to keep the score line 0-0. The Warriors got a breakthrough in the 23rd minute when Yvette Perez found the back of the net. William Jessup doubled its lead just three minutes later when Celia Rangel scored to make it 2-0. Hannah Lettington then got in on the action making it 3-0 in the 28th minute. Shonna Fraser capped off the scoring in the first half when she converted a penalty making it 4-0 at the break.
In the second half, the Red Hawks settled down and stabilized the Warrior attack until the later stages of the game when Perez scored twice more to seal a hat-trick and a 6-0 victory for William Jessup.
The Red Hawks will take on the Southern Oregon Raiders in Ashland, Ore., on Sept. 2 at 6 p.m.
