ASHLAND, Ore. - The Simpson University women’s softball team split a doubleheader with the Southern Oregon Raiders on March 7 in Ashland, Ore. The Red Hawks won game one 3-2 and lost game two 5-2.
Game one of the two-game series started with the Raiders scoring in the first inning. The Red Hawks tied the game in the top of the second off of a leadoff triple by Courtney Thomas, who was driven in by a single from Jessica Dager.

It wasn’t until the top of the seventh that the Red Hawks were able to drive in the winning run off of a Ryan Norton single that scored in Melissa Silveira off of a throwing error. Simpson was able to hold on to the 3-2 lead to win the game.
Paris Hallums received the win for the Red Hawks. She pitched all seven innings, allowing only four hits and striking out six.
In game two of the doubleheader, the Raiders jumped to a 5-0 lead after three innings of play. This inning ended the game in a 5-2 Raiders’ victory.
Kacey Pokorny received the loss of the Red Hawks. She pitched all seven innings and allowed two earned runs.
