Lady Red Hawks Win Two On The Road Against Lions

COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Simpson University women’s softball team traveled to Costa Mesa, Calif., to take on the Vanguard University Lions in a doubleheader on March 26. The Red Hawks swept the two-game series, winning game one 2-1 and game two 9-1.

In game one, Simpson earned the first run of the game when Ryan Norton’s third-inning, center-field single drove in Aleshia Brown. Vanguard tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth. The Red Hawks were able to finish off the Lions in the eighth, when Kaylana Mah singled to right to score Missy Silveria. Simpson finished game one with a 2-1 victory.

Paris Hallmus received the win and threw an impressive seven strikeouts.

Game two showcased the Red Hawks’ offensive power by out hitting the Lions 16-8. Although the Lions started out by scoring in the first inning, the Red Hawks answered back in the second with a run off Marissa Marmolejo’s right-field single which scored Anjelica Cisneros. The Red Hawks scored again in the third when Marissa Bravo drove in Brown. In the seventh, Simpson erupted for seven runs. The Lions could answer back, and the Red Hawks came away with a 9-1 road win.

Amy Rodriguez received the win for Simpson.
