REDDING, Calif. - The California Pacific Conference women's and men's basketball tournaments, newly formatted for 2010, get underway with first round action at campus sites on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
Holy Names is the women's regular season champion with a perfect 12-0 record. California Maritime captured the men's regular season top seed despite a three-way tie for first place with Holy Names and William Jessup. The Keelhaulers gained the No. 1 seed due to a better record against No. 4 Menlo.
In the semi-final and championship rounds the men and women will play on different days to allow more campus support for the participating schools. All games will be played at the site of the higher seed. At stake is a trip to the NAIA national championship tournament.
The Lady Red Hawks will open up tournament play at home on Feb. 24 as the No. 3 seed against Pacific Union College. The Lady Red Hawks finished a program best 7-5 and earn the highest conference ranking in school history finishing third.
Simpson's men’s basketball team will travel to Oakland, Calif. to face No. 3 Holy Names. The Red Hawks surprised the conference finishing No. 6 after not making the conference tournament last season.
Live video and audio cast will be available for both games via the Internet from the Simpson University web site: http://http://simpsonu.edu/livebball.
