High School: Kiyota played four years of varsity baseball at Hawaii Preparatory Academy, where he also played football and basketball. He received All-BIIF first team honors in 2010-2011.

Personal: Matthew is the son of Walter and Rolina Kiyota. His hobbies include lifting weights, playing baseball, going to the beach, baking, photography, hiking, listening to music, playing video games, hanging out with friends, and spending quality time with his family. His career goal is to become an accountant.

Reason for coming to Simpson: "I chose Simpson for the opportunity to continue playing baseball, the beautiful outdoor scenery of Redding, and the great academic learning environment."
