Men's Cross Country Coaching Staff

Head Coach: Ben Gurczynski

Ben Gurczynski has been a member of the Simpson University family since 2002. After graduating with a degree in pastoral studies in 2006, Ben became the head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country programs in 2007.

In his first season, the Red Hawks had their highest league finish (2nd) in school history. In 2011, he was named the California Pacific Conference Coach of the Year after the Red Hawks won the women’s championship.

A runner all his life, Ben has transformed Simpson’s cross country program into a perennial power. He has coached four Cal Pac champions, two NCCAA All-Americans and a NAIA All-American.

When he’s not coaching, Ben is the Director of Elementary Ministries at Neighborhood Church in Redding. He married his high school sweetheart in 2006, and they have two boys.

Assistant Coach: Nathaniel Eells

Nathaniel Eells graduated from Simpson in 2011 with a double major in youth ministry and outdoor leadership. He competed on the men's cross country team from 2009-2011 and became the assistant coach in 2012.

Nathaniel started running in college and has continued to run, completing three marathons.

When not coaching, Nathaniel is a wilderness guide at Wilderness Recovery Center in Montgomery Creek, Calif., east of Redding. He leads backpacking, rock climbing, whitwater rafting and caving trips for high schoole age boys in drug and alcohol recovery. He married a longtime family friend in the spring of 2013.
