College: McLaughlin is entering his first season playing for the Red Hawks. He is a transfer from Sierra College, where he finished second individually in the Big 8 Conference.

High School: McLaughlin played four years of varsity golf at Sonora High School, where he also played soccer. He earned first team all-league golf honors four times and was the San Joaquin Division 4 Section Champion in 2012. His soccer honors include being team captain for three years and earning first and second team all-league honors. He also earned the 2009 Valley Oak League Scholar-Athlete Award. He played club soccer for Sierra United Soccer Club.

Personal: Barrett is the son of Denyse and Mike McLaughlin. He is the oldest of five children. His hobbies include playing soccer, hiking, and fishing. He plans to have a career in business after he graduates.

Reason for coming to Simpson: "I chose Simpson because of the great opportunity it has given me to further my education as well as playing golf at the next level."
