Women's Basketball Coaching Staff
HEAD COACH: Derrick Pringle, Jr.360-870-3714
Simpson University named Derrick Pringle, Jr. head women's basketball coach in July 2007. Under his direction, the Lady Red Hawks finished as high third in the California Pacific Conference. They also advanced to the Cal Pac tournament semi-finals in 2009-2012.
In addition, the Lady Red Hawks hosted the first round of the Cal Pac tournament in 2009-2012 with a 4-0 record. Pringle has also coached two NCCAA and NAIA II All-Americans. He has produced four NCCAA All-West Region players and 12 All-Cal Pac players. In the 2012 season, Pringle had two NCCAA Scholar Athletes and NAIA Academic All-Americans on his team.
In 2011 and 2012, the Lady Red Hawks were ranked in the top 25 teams in the nation in steals and steals per game. Since Pringle’s hire, his basketball program has recorded an average GPA of 3.1 and won the highest GPA award among all athletic programs at Simpson in 2009-2011.
Before coming to Simpson, Pringle spent two seasons as assistant athletic director, athletic director, and assistant and head men's basketball coach at Puget Sound Christian College in Everett, Wash. During his tenure, he had four players named to the NCCAA II All-West Region team.
Pringle played at Simpson during the 2003 season, with the team that won the West Region Championship, finished third in the NCCAA National Tournament, and set a school record of 21 wins. He finished his collegiate career at Puget Sound Christian College, where he ranked third in Puget Sound's history in scoring, most points made in a game, field goal percentage, and 3-point percentage. He also led the nation in 3-point percentage in 2004-2005. After his career ended, Pringle was invited to attend a NBDL tryout/mini-camp for the Tulsa 66ers.
Pringle resides in Redding with his wife, Nicole, and their three children, Ayannah, Derrick III, and Isaiah. He is pursuing his master's degree in sports management at the United Sports Academy.
