High School: Shank attended Tacoma Baptist High School, where she also played volleyball, softball and soccer. Her athletic honors include all-league her sophomore season, WIAA State Athlete of the Week, league MVP her junior and senior seasons, team MVP her sophomore through senior seasons, and all-state her senior year. She broke school and state records for scoring and 3-pointers. Her academic achievements include being a member of the National Honor Society. She played club basketball for the Shock.

Personal: Melanie is the daughter of Gerald and Angel Shank. Her hobbies include music, hanging out with friends, reading, riding her moped, and loving Jesus. Her career ambition is to be a middle or high school teacher.

Reason for coming to Simpson: "Simpson felt like a place where I could grow. I got a great feeling after visiting Simpson's campus, and I loved the basketball team."
