Women's Volleyball Coaching Staff

HEAD COACH: Christy Swagerty-Vilas

Christy Swagerty-Vilas took over a struggling Red Hawk volleyball program in 2009. After a slow start, the 2009 team was able to finish the last two weeks of season with a 3-2 record. Swagerty-Vilas’ first season with the Red Hawks was highlighted by a strong 3rd place finish in the Cal Pac Playoffs.

Swagerty-Vilas was a 4-time captain and lettered in both varsity volleyball and varsity basketball in high school, where she earned several league and division honors as well as leading both her volleyball and basketball teams to a section title her junior year. She continued her athletic career in volleyball as a 3-year starter at The Master's College, where she led her team at the NCCAA Volleyball Championships to a 3rd place finish her senior year. She was also captain, all-time career assist leader, 9th all-time digs, and voted Most Inspirational by her teammates. During her time at The Master’s, Swagerty-Vilas was a two-time GSAC, NAIA, and NCCAA Academic All-American. She also tallied 11 double-doubles and 9 triple-doubles in assists, kills, and digs during her senior season.

Swagerty-Vilas coached as an assistant to her high school volleyball and basketball programs during her senior year of high school. She spent 2 years coaching club volleyball teams with Point West Mizuno Volleyball Club out of Thousand Oaks. She has also been at NBC Camps as a coach and master teacher since 2002 and has served as the NBC Volleyball Director since 2008.

She completed her degree in Kinesiology from The Master’s College in 2008, and California teaching certification in 2009. She will complete her Master’s of Arts degree in Coaching & Athletic Administration in 2011.


ASSISTANT COACH: Sarah Peterson

Sarah played volleyball for Valley Christian High School in 1996 and 1997, being part of a team that won conference both years and was selected as 2nd team all-league in 1997. She also played softball and was selected 2nd team all-league in 1997 and 1st team all-league in 1998. Sarah also played with the San Lorenzo Valley Volleyball Club.

Originally from Santa Cruz, Ca. Sarah came to Simpson University and played volleyball for the Red Hawks on the 2000 volleyball team winning NCCAA regionals. She also was part of the beginning of Simpson softball, playing in the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

Sarah then played right side as a starter for Chicago’s Moody Bible Institute volleyball team in 2001 and 2002. In 2003 she graduated from Moody Bible Institute with a B.A. in Communications.

After graduation she went on and worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car for five years as a branch manager and eventually as a Business Rental Sales Executive. Recently she has moved to Redding to start taking classes to pursue a second degree in nursing.
